About Shock Wave Therapy
Shock wave therapy is a newly developed, safe and highly effective treatment for musculoskeletal disorders. The Shockwaves produce high-energy sound waves into painful areas of the body such as tendons, ligaments, capsules, muscles and bone.
Beneficial effects of shock wave therapy are often experienced after only 1 or 3 sessions. The therapy eliminates pain and restores full mobility whether you are an elite athlete or a busy working professional. Shockwave can be effective for;
Achilles Tendinopathy – Plantar Fasciitis – Tennis Elbow – Golfers Elbow – Patella Tendinopathy – Calcific Shoulder Tendinopathy – Trochanteric Pain Syndrome.
Shockwave therapy was often used at the 2012 Olympics on international sports stars. Shockwave has also recently been installed at St Georges Park to be used by the English football team. To reassure patients the effectiveness of shockwave a ASSERT (Assessment of effectiveness of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) for soft tissue injuries) protocol has been developed by Professor Nicola Maffulli, one of the most pre-eminent sport medicine and orthopaedic consultants in the UK and the Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
